Social entrepreneurs identify resources where people only see problems. They view the villagers as the solution, not the passive beneficiary. They begin with the assumption of competence and unleash resources in the communities they’re serving. as quoted by David Bornstein
My journey as a social entrepreneur began in 2015, when under the banner of FICCI Flo northeast chapter I got to witness the struggles and pains of rural entrepreneurs, especially handloom weavers . Then under wings of Dr. Harbeen Arora Rai Thought Leader, Global Icon & Visionary for Women, Businesswoman, Philanthropist Author, Humanitarian gave the opportunity and vision to work passionately for welfare of women entrepreneur along with rural entrepreneur
Thus in other words one can say social entrepreneurship is a unique approach in solving social problems by combining business principles with a focus on creating positive social or environmental impact. Unlike traditional entrepreneurs who primarily aim to maximise profits, social entrepreneurs are driven by a desire to make a difference and create sustainable change in society.
Social entrepreneurship can be characterised by several key features that distinguish it from other forms of entrepreneurship:
Mission-driven: Social entrepreneurs are motivated by a strong social or environmental mission, aiming to address pressing issues such as poverty, education, healthcare, or climate change.
Innovative solutions: Social entrepreneurs are those who develop innovative and creative approaches to tackle social problems. They often challenge the status quo and come up with new ideas or technologies to address the root causes of the issues they are working on.
Sustainable business models: Social entrepreneurs aim to create sustainable business models that generate revenue while also delivering social impact. They often leverage market forces and blend traditional business practices with their social mission.
Thus Social entrepreneurship has the potential to create significant impact and bring about positive change in society.
I as a social entrepreneur is constantly striving towards upliftment, upgradation and empowerment of rural empowerment through sustainable livelihood.
